 abstract={The ability to manage change successfully is a key strength of the contemporary enterprise. The article presents results of the studies on the involvement of the managerial staff in the process of change in the group of Polish state companies. It highlights the managerial roles – especially on the initional phase of the change process - that constitute the key factors in successfully managing change. These are set in the context of the traditional approach to theory of management which approves the decision - making roles as the main competence of top management. It appeared to be the case at the examined companies.},
